Lynn Sheridan Obituary

In Loving Memory of Lynn Penner Sheridan
July 5, 1940 – September 3, 2025

Lynn Penner Sheridan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, artist, and friend, passed. away peacefully on September 3, 2025, in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She was 85 years old.

Born on July 5, 1940, in Upper Montclair, New Jersey, Lynn spent her formative years in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science in Art, a degree that reflected her lifelong passion for creativity and expression.

Lynn’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with many roles—artist, publisher, house
painter, bookbinder, box office agent—but perhaps her most impactful role was as the
“innkeeper” of her home in Chevy Chase. For decades, her home was a sanctuary,
welcoming hundreds of friends, family members, and even strangers with warmth,
laughter, and the aroma of her gifted cooking.

She was an avid reader of mysteries, a spirited singer who sang with joy regardless of
pitch, a talented artist, and a chef whose feasts were legendary among those lucky
enough to gather around her table. Lynn’s zest for life was matched by her commitment
to justice and community. She was a proud supporter of social activism and considered
her work with the local IATSE union among her most meaningful contributions. She
proudly knew numerous union songs which she sang with gusto.

Her family will forever cherish her favorite life stories, which ran the gamut from shaking
Queen Elizabeth’s hand at Balmoral to winning a drag race against a Corvette while
behind the wheel of her father’s Thunderbird as a teen in Milwaukee.

Lynn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Sheridan, and her siblings,
Mike Penner and Margie Luntz. She is survived by her devoted son Brian, daughter-in-
law Maria, and her adored grandchildren Nolan and Meg. She also leaves behind
nieces and nephews Anne, Jane, David, and Charlie and her sister-in-law Sally.

Lynn’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and fierce compassion. She will be deeply
missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
