June 12, 1942 – January 26, 2026
John James Harris, affectionately known and deeply loved by many, peacefully transitioned from this life on January 26, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on June 12, 1942, in Calvert County, Maryland, John was the son of the late Philip Harris Jr. and Nellie Harris.
John was a proud graduate of Loys Brooks High School in Calvert County, Maryland. He spent much of his life doing what he loved most—working with his hands and bringing beauty back to classic cars. A skilled classic car restorer, John was known for his attention to detail, patience, and pride in craftsmanship.
Outside of his work, John lived life with joy and humor. He had a passion for restoring hot rods, playing horseshoes—earning the nickname “2 Shoes” for his impressive throws—bowling with a signature spin on the ball, and enjoying a good game of cornhole. His presence brought laughter, stories, and unforgettable moments to family gatherings and friendships alike.
John was a man of faith who wholeheartedly believed that God held his future. Though never formally married, Velma Grace White was the love of his life and held a special place in his heart.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Charles, Dennis, and Thomas Harris; his sister Vertina Harris; his sons Jesse and Dexter Harris; and the love of his life, Velma Grace White.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: sons Gene, John D., and John James Harris Jr.; daughters Kim Ellis, Johnetta Floyd, Jennifer Harris, and Junna Harris; a host of grandchildren; his sisters Nettie and Paulette; brothers Cornelius “Buck,” Philip “Stick,” and Joseph “Joe”; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
