Claudette Constant Obituary

Claudette was a proud Haitian woman, born to Ruben Antoine and Emelie Louis. She loved the culture and history of her country fiercely. She came to the USA in 1965 to Brooklyn, NY and excelled in high school and college where she received her Associates Degree in Nursing. From there, she met her future husband, Joel Constant. They had three children, Nancy, Rachel, and Rebecca and built a life together living in New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Claudette was a dedicated medical professional in the field of women’s and maternal health where she supported and cared for countless women throughout the years. In 2023, Claudette moved to Maryland to be closer to her grandchildren and for the warmer weather. Here, she became an active member of her residence community, supporting fellow residents and even a few lucky cats outside. All of her compassion and dedication were not just happenstance, they were rooted in her devotion and love to God and Mother Mary.

Claudette loved music, books, politics, dancing, traveling, animals, and cooking for her loved ones. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, filled with laughter and general joy. She loved her family deeply, and spoke proudly of them often. She was a selfless being, who consistently found a way to be active in her community, willing to support and help others, especially those who needed it the most. She believed in the power of education and often pushed young people around her to be better versions of themselves.

Claudette departed this life on June 11, 2025 and was preceded in death by her father Ruben Antoine, her mother Emelie Louis, and her husband Joel Constant. She leaves to cherish her memory by her children Nancy and Marcques Washington, Rachel Constant, Rebecca and Jason Arauz, and her cat Sasha; her grandchildren Marcques and Madison Washington; her sister Marie-Lourdes, her nephews Ben and Jeff; her cousins that were basically her siblings Marcia, Gerald, Pierre; as well as all of their children whom she loved as her own. May she rest in peace.
