In Loving Memory of Barbara Jo Blake

Barbara Jo Blake, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, sister, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025. She was born on October 2, 1955, in Morgantown, West Virginia, to Edward Frank Nett and Bonnie Kay Hawkins.

Barbara was educated in the Preston County school system and attended Valley High School in Masontown, West Virginia. She carried her small-town values of kindness, loyalty, and hard work with her throughout her life.

On August 21, 1986, Barbara was united in marriage with the love of her life, Terry Blake. The couple eloped and married at the Garrett County Courthouse in Oakland, Maryland. Their union was filled with nearly four decades of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Barbara dedicated much of her professional life to Insignia Management, where she worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant, Property Manager, and Leasing Consultant from 1981 to 1999. She later continued her career at the Charles County Courthouse in the Land Records from 2002 to 2009, and with Southern Maryland Title from 2000 until her retirement in 2017. Her professionalism, dependability, and caring nature earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

Outside of work, Barbara had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. She loved listening to ’70s music, and country music, tending to her flowers and plants, and collecting family photographs that she proudly framed and displayed throughout her home. Her creativity and warmth made her home a reflection of her loving spirit.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Jack Nett; stepmother Carol Nett;  brothers Frank, David, and Steven Nett; and her step brothers Jack and Dennis Cadmus:

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Terry Blake; children Tim Ward and wife Tricia, of Yoe, Pennsylvania,  Nikki Haines and husband Joe, of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Daniel Blake, of Mechanicsville, Maryland.

She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Nathanael, Amelia, Rochelle, Brittney, Savanna, and Jenna, and her great-grandchildren Brayden and Violet. Barbara is also survived by her mother Bonnie Myers, stepsister Donna Lagos, Anna Cecil, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.

Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, devotion, and gentle heart. She found joy in caring for others and always made those around her feel valued and loved. Her family and friends will forever cherish her memory and the love she shared so freely.

Barbara's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

“She was my heart, my home, and my peace. Every flower she planted, every song we sang, and every laugh we shared will forever live in me.”

— With all my love, The Luckiest man in the world.
